2018 FB AIR Program
Very proud to be one of eleven local artists recently recruited into Facebook's Artist in Residence Program for its Chicago office complex. I was given a hallway which, altogether, has little over 40 linear feet of usable wall space. Community and connectivity were part of the concept brief. An immersive experience of crocheted fiberglass was requested. I was given exactly 4 weeks to create and install. This is what I came up with.
Pascal's Bridges
Physical and metaphorical bridges connect, facilitate exchanges, and expand our personal universes. Here, small simplified bridge forms string together to create longer bridge forms which then assemble into 7 large triangles that, individually and as a group, allude to bridges vertically and horizontally. Structure of each triangle visualizes the first 4 rows of Pascal’s number triangle. Crocheting fiberglass bridges a centuries old domestic handicraft with modern industrial materials. And, as all cultures seem to have their own lace tradition, lace is one tiny point of intersection that connects us all.
